Project Overview
Overview
Forge is a distributed background task queue engine modeled after enterprise execution systems. It focuses on resilient asynchronous processing, predictable recovery, and real-time operational visibility.
Core Capabilities
- Priority Routing: Urgent jobs can bypass standard traffic.
- Delayed Execution: Redis sorted sets hold scheduled work until the exact execution timestamp.
- Self-Healing Retries: Transient failures use exponential backoff with jitter to avoid retry storms.
- Dead-Letter Queue: Poison jobs are quarantined for manual inspection instead of blocking the queue.
- Live Telemetry: Workers stream throughput, latency, queue depth, and execution metrics into a React dashboard.
Architecture
Forge follows a producer-broker-consumer model:
- API Layer: Validates requests, rate-limits traffic, and persists job lifecycle metadata.
- Redis Broker: Routes priority queues, delayed sets, and pub/sub telemetry.
- Worker Layer: Atomically claims jobs and executes handlers with controlled concurrency.
- Persistence Layer: MongoDB stores payloads, attempts, timestamps, outcomes, and errors.
